Recognition of names presents many challenges for speech recognition. This presentation addresses the issues encountered when building solutions for capturing first and last names. From sourcing data to fine-tuning the grammars, we look at how the application of various recognition techniques helps to achieve best results in terms of recognition accuracy and coverage. We also discuss some back-off strategies that can be used to further increase the success rate of the name collection task.
