Dawn Harpster is a user interface designer at PTP Inc. Following a career in both broadcast and corporate television as an engineer and then as a writer/producer, she got her BA in Applied Psychology. During her college career Dawn conducted and presented research on Culture and Refugees at Psychology conferences around the Midwest. A chance meeting at her daughter's volleyball game set her on the path to user interface design, which seemed like a natural extension of psychology. At its core, user design is psychology; How you ask a question is just as important as what you are asking, because it will determine what kind of response you will get. At PTP, Dawn is responsible for designing voice (IVR) and text applications for users around the globe, leveraging her fascination for culture and the study of human behavior. She believes that right now is the best time to be involved in user centered design and research because how users interact with technology is evolving rapidly. New and advancing technologies provide opportunities for learning and personal and professional growth. "We design in theory; user data is practice!"
