Murray has worked in the field of speech technology and speech synthesis services for nearly 30 years, including directing Telcordia's Speech Technology Research Group. He developed speech technology services employing Telcordia's synthesizer and its Phonetic Pronunciation Package. He was responsible for much of the front-end processing in the system, particularly focusing on the synthesis of names. His voice is the basis of Telcordia's TTS sound inventory. Previously at Bell Laboratories, Murray worked on exploratory services and system engineering for speech synthesis and speech recognition in office information systems; under a post-doctoral grant at Harvard, he researched the role of complex sound perception.
