Picture of Jesse RobbinsJesse Robbins is Founder and CEO of Orion Labs, a platform for instant communication across a constellation of connected clients and devices. The company recently released Onyx, which is often compared a real-life "Star-Trek Communicator Badge”.

 

Robbins serves on the board of Heavybit, the program that helps developer and infrastructure tools startups succeed. Jesse is deeply involved with Fastly, CircleCI, Pagerduty, LaunchDarkly, and more.

 

Prior to Orion, Robbins was founder & CEO of Chef, the leader in cloud automation, used by thousands of companies like Amazon, Facebook, Google, and Microsoft. He also founded the Velocity Web Performance & Operations Conference and edited the Web Operations book. He is credited as a creator of the DevOps movement.

 

Prior to founding Chef, Robbins served as Amazon’s “Master of Disaster” where he was responsible for Website Availability for every property bearing the Amazon brand. His most notable accomplishments at Amazon was the creation of the Game Day and Incident Management programs, which adapted his fire service experience

 

Robbins is a volunteer Firefighter/EMT and Emergency Manager and led a task force deployed in Operation Hurricane Katrina. His experiences in the fire service profoundly influence his efforts in technology, and he strives to distill his knowledge from these two worlds and apply it in service of both.

 

Robbins lives in San Francisco, CA with his partner Dr. Jenny Rooke. When he is not building companies or putting out fires, can be found sailing, skiing, and SCUBA diving.
