The barriers for speech technologies are falling! Join us at SpeechTEK 2010 to explore the rapidly expanding opportunities for speech technology as a vital part of today’s multimodal and cross-channel world. Voice-only IVR solutions, for example, are being enhanced by a variety of solutions:

  • Mobile devices using speech integrated into small graphical user interfaces
  • Intelligent IVR, including customized dialogues and semantic language models
  • Cross-channel speech applications involving telephone, Web, fax, chat, and social networking
  • New functions, including biometrics, analytics, and video

SpeechTEK is the premier venue for interacting with speech industry experts, vendors, and peers. Our emphasis is on the effective use of speech in cooperation with other technologies to provide valuable interactions. Attendees will learn effective strategies for design, evaluation, implementation, and maintenance of speech technologies.

We invite you to share your stories about breaking a speech barrier. We welcome proposals from organizations deploying speech, researchers, designers, developers, and providers. Submit your proposals here by January 19, 2010.

Presentation Formats
SpeechTEK 2010 offers many presentation formats to best fit your story.

20 Minute Presentation
We invite you to submit proposals for 20-minute presentations on important topics in speech technology. Proposals should address an audience interested in business strategies, user interface and voice interaction design, or development of speech applications. Introductory-level proposals are welcome, but we encourage submissions for more experienced audiences as well. We favor solutions-oriented proposals. If you have  a product-specific demonstration, consider proposing it for the SpeechTEK Lab, instead.

Customer Case Studies
Conference attendees learn best from the experiences of others like them! The goal of a case study presentation is for customer organizations deploying speech applications to present real-life stories from actual speech deployments. Whether you have a success story or a cautionary tale to tell, case studies are all about what worked, what didn’t, and why. Successful proposals will explore the following themes: Why did you choose speech? What business problems were you trying to solve? What methods did you use to design, implement, test, deploy, and monitor your application? Did your solution achieve the promised return on investment (ROI)? Which methods were successful and which would you change? What advice would you give to an organization considering speech? Case studies will only be accepted from customers who deploy speech applications. (Vendors, customer case studies are one of the best ways to promote a successful deployment of your product. Encourage your customers to submit a case study presentation.)

Sunrise Discussions
These 45-minute early morning sessions give attendees a chance to share knowledge and ask questions about a topic of interest. A discussion leader will facilitate the conversation and offer expert opinions. Possible topics include multilingual applications, standard development languages, voice search, legal issues facing the speech community, patent-writing, venture capitalists and funding, managing the modern call center, or customer-vendor relationships. What topic would you like to discuss with your peers?

SpeechTEK Labs
The SpeechTEK Lab is back for a third year to offer speech vendors the opportunity to show how their best products stack up against the competition.  These two-hour labs enable vendors to demonstrate their products and allow conference attendees to understand the technologies via a hands on experience. Judges will rate each SpeechTEK Lab entry and the winners will be included in an upcoming issue of Speech Technology magazine. You are free to submit lab entries on the topic of your choice. We will organize labs around the topics that produce the best and most interesting proposals.

Targeted Training (new this year)
New this year is SpeechTEK Targeted Training. These 45-minute sessions are designed to give attendees practical, take-home lessons on a single important topic. Targeted Training sessions are intended for experienced practitioners who do not need introductory material; instead these sessions explore a topic in-depth and give attendees skills and knowledge they can use immediately. Targeted training proposals should  be vendor agnostic, rather than focused on a particular product or service. We encourage you to propose product-specific presentations for the SpeechTEK Lab, instead.

SpeechTEK University (Aug 1 & Aug 5, 2010)
If you have a special skill or body of knowledge, we invite you to share it with the SpeechTEK audience. We invite proposals for half-day tutorials that focus on breaking barriers with speech technology. Tutorials may be introductory or advanced, but should focus on delivering useful knowledge and skills to the audience. Attendees respond best to participatory and hands-on tutorials, so we will favor proposals that pitch highly interactive tutorials.
